- Green Bay Packers receive promising detail in Sean Rhyan’s high ankle sprain diagnosis
The Green Bay Packers' offensive line has suffered another blow, but there is a potentially encouraging detail for Jordan Love. CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz reports that tests revealed a high ankle sprain for starting center Sean Rhyan, an injury that could keep him sidelined for a minimum of four weeks. Rhyan is not expected to require tightrope surgery, which could make his rehabilitation less complicated.
"Not currently expected to undergo tightrope surgery but currently viewed as likely that he'll miss at least four weeks," Zenitz wrote.
Rhyan's absence remains a major setback for Green Bay , as the Packers will need to adjust their interior offensive line without their starting center. Still, the possibility of avoiding surgery offers some encouragement, provided his recovery progresses without further setbacks.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Love (10) is shown with guard Aaron Banks (65), running back Chris Brooks (30), guard Sean Rhyan (75) and guard Jordan Morgan (77) during the fourth quarter of their wild card playoff game Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. The Chicago Bears beat the Green Bay Packers 31-27.
Love has been a key force behind Green Bay's offense through the first five games of the 2026 NFL season. He threw for 387 yards against Minnesota before recording 312 passing yards against Atlanta.
In Week 5 against Chicago, Love completed 80.6% of his passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns. His strong performances have kept the Packers competitive despite an inconsistent running game and ongoing changes along the offensive line.

Green Bay Packers offensive tackle Anthony Belton (71), center Jacob Monk (62), guard Sean Rhyan (75), Jacob Monk (62) and guard Jordan Morgan (77) are shown during the first quarter of their game against the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Green Bay's coaching staff must now find ways to protect Love while Rhyan continues his recovery. The remaining offensive linemen will need to communicate effectively and execute their assignments consistently, especially as opposing defenses look to take advantage of any weaknesses inside the line.
Although Rhyan's absence creates another challenge for Green Bay, the prospect of avoiding surgery provides some encouragement. The Packers must find a way to maintain stability up front over the next month and keep Love protected as they work through the latest change to their offensive line.
