- Green Bay Packers’ Xavier McKinney reveals NFL fine for criticizing NFL officials after Lions game
Xavier McKinney and the Green Bay Packers got back on track Thursday night, earning a 27-19 victory over the Carolina Panthers at Lambeau Field. The result moved Green Bay to 5-3 on the season, while Carolina fell to 3-4.
The Packers responded after suffering a narrow 20-17 defeat to the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Week 7. Following that loss, Xavier McKinney openly criticized the officiating crew, taking issue with several calls, including a crucial penalty late in the fourth quarter.

According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, McKinney disclosed before Thursday's matchup with Carolina that the NFL had fined him for his outspoken criticism of the officiating following Green Bay's loss to Detroit.
"The minimum fine for criticizing officials is $25,000. He wouldn't say exactly how much but said it wasn't less than that. But he also said it was worth it to support his team," wrote the NFL insider.
"I make enough money, so I'll be OK," McKinney commented.

McKinney joined the Packers in 2024 after signing a four-year, $67 million deal. The two-time All-Pro made his presence felt against Carolina, recording three total sacks and one pass defended in Thursday's victory.
Xavier McKinney's willingness to absorb a fine for speaking out shows how much he cares about his teammates, even at the risk of his own bank account. The three sacks and pass defended against Carolina were a strong answer to the frustration of the Detroit loss, and they gave the Packers a much-needed boost on defense.
Green Bay will take on the New England Patriots in Week 9.
