CLEVELAND — The Guardians are in the process of once again locking up their star third baseman to a long-term deal. And, once again, the star third baseman is giving the Guardians a team-friendly deal compared to his market value.
All-Star Jose Ramirez and the Guardians are finalizing a restructured seven-year, $175 million deal that would keep him in Cleveland through the 2032 season. The deal was first reported by Hector Gomez .
The restructured contract effectively adds four years and $106 million to the extension Ramirez signed just before the 2022 season . At the time, it was the largest contract ever handed out by the franchise, a title now replaced with this new deal. If finalized, the deal would also include $70 million in deferred payments, according to a report by The Athletic , following a league-wide trend started by the Los Angeles Dodgers .

At a $25 million average annual value, it's still well below what Ramirez , 33, would make on a free agent market.
This deal also potentially means Ramirez will retire a Guardian. He's already taken over much of the franchise's record book .
Since the beginning of the 2016 season, Ramirez is tied for third in fWAR with 56.0 . He's tied with Mookie Betts and behind only Francisco Lindor (56.5) and Aaron Judge (61.6). Over the last nine seasons, Ramirez has finished in the top 10 in American League MVP voting eight times, including four MVP finalist years (top three), while earning seven All-Star selections.
