The Cleveland Guardians are heading into the postseason without one of their important bullpen arms. Colin Holderman will undergo season-ending right wrist surgery, ending his chances of helping Cleveland during its October run.

Zack Meisel of The Athletic reported the news Thursday. Holderman has dealt with chronic wrist inflammation for four years, and the issue resurfaced during the second half of the 2026 season.
The right-hander had been working toward a return after landing on the injured list in September. However, his comeback hit another setback when he experienced wrist discomfort during a rehab appearance with Triple-A Columbus.
Guardians Must Adjust Without Colin Holderman
Holderman was a reliable part of Cleveland's relief corps when healthy. He finished the regular season with a 2.73 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP and 50 strikeouts across 54 appearances and 52 2/3 innings.
His absence leaves manager Stephen Vogt with one fewer option for the middle and late innings. Cade Smith remains a key part of the bullpen, while Tim Herrin, Hunter Gaddis and Slade Cecconi are among the pitchers who could help cover the workload.
Holderman's season-ending procedure also brings an end to a difficult stretch with his wrist. He had previously missed time with the same issue while playing for Pittsburgh, and the recurring problem has now required surgery.

Despite the setback, Holderman plans to remain with the team during the postseason. He also offered a confident message about Cleveland's chances, telling Meisel, "We're the team of destiny."
That optimism will be welcome in the clubhouse, but the Guardians still have to manage without a pitcher who gave them meaningful innings throughout the season.
Cleveland will need contributions from across its bullpen as it begins its postseason campaign. Holderman may not be available on the mound, but he intends to stay involved as the Guardians chase a championship.
