“It was a tough one,”Guardians manager Stephen Vogtsaid. “Just a lot of mistakes over the middle [of the plate]. He didn’t have much. The fastball had some life at times and other times it didn’t. Really, I thought it was a lack of execution.
“… This was a tough one. This is a game you flush. This shouldn’t hurt for too long. It was a frustrating night, but you flush it and you get right back on it tomorrow.”
Bibee (0-7, 4.57 ERA) allowed a home run to start each of the three innings he pitched and finished allowing eight hits and seven earned runs with three strikeouts.

Rhys Hoskinslined a home run in the second for the Guardians, but the Nationals responded with a home run byCJ Abramsin the third to make it 7-1.
“They are aggressive, we made mistakes and they hit them,” Vogt said. “It is as simple as that. … [Bibee] is five days removed from eight stellar innings [and allowing one earned run in a no-decision against theDetroit Tigers]. It was just a tough day.”

The Nationals finished with six home runs, with Mead hitting solo shot in the fifth offMatt Festa. The last time the Guardians allowed six homers in a game was Sept. 4, 2023, against theMinnesota Twins.
Bibee’s rough start knocked him out of the top 25 among ERA leaders in the American League. The Guardians still have three starters in the top 25 —Parker Messick(6-1, fourth at 2.24),Joey Cantillo(4-1, 10th at 3.05) andGavin Williams(7-3, 15th at 3.25).
Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Logan Allen (26) throws a pitch during the first inning against the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field in Cleveland on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
Left-handed pitcher Logan Allen made his season debut for the Guardians in relief and allowed five hits, a walk and two unearned runs in four innings. Allen struck out seven in his longest relief outing as a major-leaguer.

“Logan was great,” Vogt said of Allen, who was recalled from Columbus on May 24. “They made him throw a lot of pitches [with 83]. He got into some deep counts. … I thought Logan threw the ball excellent. He picked us up in a big way.”
Allen’s locker was cleaned out by clubhouse attendants after the May 25 game, indicating a roster move was likely before the game Tuesday, May 26.
“It is always good to see LA up here,” Bibee said. “He showed why he is a big-league pitcher. He pitched really well.”
