The Cleveland Guardians have been playing well overall in recent action, but they were defeated 10-2 on Monday by the Washington Nationals . Starting pitcher Tanner Bibee allowed seven earned runs and eight hits across three outings in a difficult outing. After the game, Bibee got brutally honest while discussing the start, via Mason Horodyski.
"Anything right now would probably be emotional, so there is nothing I can really say right now about it," Bibee said.
Bibee also commented on moving on from the difficult start.
"Just starts tomorrow," the Guardians pitcher said, "with whatever the department's got. I'll look at it and see what I got, too."
The Guardians have one of the better starting rotations in the game. Gavin Williams looks like a future Cy Young winner . Parker Messick has impressed this season. Bibee, who started Opening Day, has struggled, however.
The 27-year-old now holds a 4.57 ERA across 12 outings in 2026. He has 55 strikeouts in 63 innings of work as well. The Guardians likely still believe in Bibee, but they need the right-handed hurler to turn things around sooner rather than later. Cleveland expects to compete in 2026 and Bibee's performance has been underwhelming.
The Guardians are still in a quality position overall. They are 8-2 over their past 10 games and in first place in the American League Central standings. Cleveland currently holds a 3.5 game lead over the second place Chicago White Sox in the division.
The Guardians will attempt to jump back into the win column at Progressive Field on Tuesday night against the Nationals once again at 6:10 PM EST.
