The last few weeks have been a wild ride for John Konchar , as he has been on three different teams in less than a month. He was doing just fine with the Utah Jazz before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves .
The Timberwolves then made the decision to release him in order to sign Jonathan Kuminga . It led to Konchar becoming a free agent, where he heard from multiple teams.
"John Konchar is one of the top free agents available and has drawn interest, league sources say, from Miami , New York , Orlando and Toronto ," The Stein Line's Marc Stein wrote.
On Tuesday night, Konchar made a decision on where he wants to play next season. ESPN's Shams Charania reported that Konchar has agreed to terms with the defending NBA champion New York Knicks .
"Free agent forward John Konchar agreed to a deal with the New York Knicks , agent George S. Langberg of GSL Sports Group told ESPN on Tuesday night. Konchar, 30, is entering his eighth NBA season after spending 2025-26 with the Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies ," Charania wrote.
This is a great move for the guard, as he can play with some of the best players in the NBA. However, the Miami Heat were in conversations with him about a potential deal, but he chose New York before they could get back to him.
"Knicks made offer that Konchar accepted tonight, as Shams said. Heat told Konchar it would get back to him this week with decision on whether there would be offer after 2 conversations on recent days, but he decided to join NBA champs instead of waiting on Heat to decide," Miami Herald's Barry Jackson wrote.
It sure seems like Miami was going to come back with an offer, but the Knicks must have gotten wind of it because they swooped right in. Konchar was one of the best free agents available, so New York got him while they could.
Konchar has made $21 million throughout his career. This might be one of the few misses the Heat have had all year in free agency. It is just fine, though, as they have a roster full of talent.
