The Yankees have nine players eligible for salary arbitration this offseason.
Those players are Clarke Schmidt, Luis Garcia Jr., Ryan Weathers, Fernando Cruz, Jose Caballero, Anthony Volpe, Luis Gil, Heliot Ramos, and Austin Wells.
Once a player is offered arbitration, the team and that player's agent have until a set date -- usually at some point in February -- to come to terms on a new contract. If that doesn't happen, both sides submit salary proposals and the player's salary is determined by independent arbitrators at a hearing (a timeframe that could be impacted this offseason by the expected lockout).
A team can also offer arbitration to a player and then trade that player. So the Yankees can tender contracts to players who might not be in their plans.
According to the MLB Trade Rumors algorithm that "looks at the player's playing time, position, role, and performance statistics while accounting for inflation," here's what the Yankees' arbitration-eligible players are projected to make in 2027...
Luis Garcia Jr: $11 million
Clarke Schmidt: $4.5 million
Anthony Volpe: $4 million
Jose Caballero: $3.7 million
Heliot Ramos: $3.2 million
Ryan Weathers: $3.1 million
Austin Wells: $2.6 million
Fernando Cruz: $2.3 million
Luis Gil: $2.3 million
If the Yankees tender contracts to all of the above players and they receive salaries similar to the projections, it would add roughly $36.7 million to the payroll.
As things currently stand, New York has just over $276 million on the books for 2027.
