Hilary Knight wasn't going to be satisfied with another silver finish at the Winter Olympics.
The captain of the U.S. women's hockey team delivered perhaps one of the biggest goals of her Olympic career in the winding minutes of the third period of Thursday's gold medal game against Canada when she tipped in a shot from Lalia Edwards to tie the game at 1-1 and force overtime.
It was also a historic goal for the five-time Olympian, as she got her record-breaking 15th career goal and 33rd career point at the Winter Olympics. She now holds the all-time U.S. women's hockey records for goals and points recorded at the Winter Games.

Team USA would go on to win the gold thanks to an overtime goal from Megan Keller. It is the third Olympic gold medal win in history for the U.S. women's hockey team, and its second since the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.
Knight's goal marked the third goal she scored at the 2026 Winter Olympics. When asked about her historic moment after the win, Knight, whether serious or not, told NBC that she did not know she etched her name further into women's hockey history at the Winter Olympics.
"No way," Knight told NBC after the game. "I'm just happy about the gold medal. Oh my gosh, this feels amazing."
Thursday's record-breaking served to be a poetic ending to Knight's Olympic career, as the 2026 Winter Olympics are the fifth and final Winter Games for Knight. She made her Olympic debut during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, where she helped Team USA to a silver medal.
Knight will finish her Olympic career as one of the more decorated and successful women's hockey players in United States (and Olympic) history, as she has helped Team USA win four Olympic medals in her career, including three silver medals.
