Recently, the Charlotte Hornets made headlines by trading point guard LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Naz Reid and draft compensation. On Sunday, Charlotte 's busy offseason continued with another deal involving one of their longest-tenured players.
"BREAKING: The Charlotte Hornets are trading Miles Bridges , a 2029 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick to the Phoenix Suns for Grayson Allen , Royce O'Neale and a 2033 first-round pick, sources tell ESPN," reported Shams Charania of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.
Heading into this offseason, Bridges was regarded by many as being the much likelier trade candidate between himself and Ball, considering both his expiring contract and the fact that his style of play and age don't necessarily fit with what Charlotte is building.
The fact that the teams traded future first-round picks in this deal is certainly an interesting wrinkle, and Allen and O'Neale will provide Charlotte with even more shooters to add to a team that already features snipers like Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel .
It will be interesting to see how the Hornets initiate their offense next year without Ball in the mix, and Bridges, for all his deficiencies, did provide the team with a reliable shot creator in the halfcourt.
Meanwhile, with this move, the Suns part ways with some wing depth but help shore up their frontcourt rotation, all while adding one of the league's most explosive athletes and transition forces to the team.
The Suns and Hornets will now look ahead to NBA free agency, which is slated to open for business on Tuesday evening.
