The Houston Texans needed to find a third quarterback after placing Graham Mertz on injured reserve in mid-August with an ACL tear and releasing Brett Rypien during roster cuts. With less than one week until Houston hosts the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, they have yet to add a quarterback to the practice squad. If a team keeps two QBs on the active roster, they typically keep one on the practice squad in case of an emergency.

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2, the Texans have signed Mark Gronowski to the practice squad. Gronowski can be elevated to the game-day roster three times without penalty this season; otherwise, a fourth elevation would require a promotion to the active roster.

The Miami Dolphins signed Mark Gronowski as an undrafted free agent in May and waived him in early August before bringing him back nine days later. Gronowski competed for a roster spot and completed six of 13 pass attempts for 98 yards in the final two preseason games. The Dolphins waived him during roster cuts and re-signed him to the practice squad. Unfortunately, Miami released him shortly after.
