HSV wrap-up: Today's key news from Hamburg!
Hello, HSV fans! Welcome to today's edition of your daily Volkspark briefing. After the cup exit against Eintracht Frankfurt, attention quickly turns back to league action. Today brings hope of a more solid defence, news on future planning at boardroom level and the answer to a surprising captaincy mystery.
A glimmer of hope in defence: Bornauw and Torunarigha nearing a return
After the clear signs of poor coordination in the newly assembled back line against Eintracht Frankfurt, there is hope that the injury situation will ease ahead of Sunday's league match. Both Jordan Torunarigha and Sebastiaan Bornauw are close to returning to team training, after Bornauw's jaw injury from the cup match fortunately proved stable. If the medical team gives the green light, coach Merlin Polzin could have his experienced centre-backs available again just in time for the weekend.

Continuity in management: HSV planning a contract extension for Costa
After extending head coach Merlin Polzin's contract, HSV are apparently taking the next steps towards a stable future in the Bundesliga. According to media reports, the club's leadership, headed by board member for sport Kathleen Krüger, has decided to extend the contract of sporting director Claus Costa, whose current deal expires in the summer. Costa, who played a key role in reshaping the squad during the summer transfer window, is seen as an important piece of the puzzle in the club's sporting strategy.

An unusual change of armband: How Patson Daka suddenly became HSV captain
When Sambi Lokonga had to be substituted in the cup match, the captain's armband surprisingly passed to Patson Daka, who had only joined the club a few months earlier. With almost the entire players' leadership group either sidelined through injury or off the pitch, the Zambian stepped up to take responsibility on the field. Coach Merlin Polzin smiled at the unexpected turn of events, but stressed that Daka's voice already carries considerable weight in the dressing room.
