The Carolina Hurricanes are still celebrating their Stanley Cup victory as the 2026 NHL Draft nears. However, it does not appear as if general manager Eric Tulsky is willing to rest on his laurels. Carolina is active on the trade market ahead of the draft. And Winnipeg Jets superstar Connor Hellebuyck is reportedly in his sights.
Hellebuyck has surfaced in the trade rumor mill over the last few weeks. The three-time Vezina winner and one-time MVP remains with the Jets at this time. However, the Hurricanes have reportedly made a massive offer for the future Hall of Famer, according to NHL insider Frank Seravalli.
"Sources indicate the Carolina Hurricanes made a pitch this week for United States Olympic gold medalist and three-time Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck. The offer was believed to include a first-round pick along with pending RFA defenseman Alexander Nikishin , a player swirling in trade winds this week," Seravalli wrote for his website , Hockey 24/7, on Thursday.
Hellebuyck has long been seen as the best goaltender in the NHL. In 2024-25, he won the Hart Memorial Trophy as league MVP. He led the Jets to their first Presidents Trophy in franchise history. And despite some postseason struggles, he helped them come within two games of the Western Conference Finals.
The Hurricanes have a solid situation in goal at this time. Brandon Bussi helped shut down the Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Final to cap off a fantastic rookie season. Pyotr Kochetkov looks ready for a more involved role. And a reunion with Frederik Andersen , who will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1, is possible.
However, adding Hellebuyck to the mix gives this team a truly elite goaltender. Carolina would stand as a true powerhouse in the Eastern Conference. And they would be heavy favorites to win the Stanley Cup again in 2027.
