- IndyCar pulls out of NSS in 2027
IndyCar will not race at Nashville Superspeedway in 2027 or anywhere else in middle Tennessee.
Organizers of the Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix released a statement Friday:
"We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the loyal and passionate INDYCAR fans who have been part of the Music City Grand Prix journey.
"From the beginning, your enthusiastic support has helped make the Music City Grand Prix a special and unique destination on the racing calendar. You turned race weekends into unforgettable celebrations and helped create an atmosphere that was uniquely Nashville. These moments and milestones we've shared together will always be remembered fondly and have helped create new race fans in Middle Tennessee and beyond.
"We are equally grateful to the partners who supported us throughout each stage of this journey, from our early relationships with key stakeholders in downtown Nashville, to our friends at Nashville Superspeedway. We take great pride in the positive impact the event delivered for Nashville, Lebanon and communities across Tennessee and we thank everyone who played a role in making it possible."
Race chairman Scott Borchetta, a longtime open-wheel racing fan, brought Indy racing back to middle Tennessee in 2021. It ran three races on a street course through downtown Nashville, including over the Cumberland River via the Korean Veterans Boulevard Bridge.
But construction on the new Nissan Stadium forced the race to the oval at Nashville Superspeedway, where the Firestone Indy 200 had run eight times from 2001-08. Three races have since been held at the Gladeville track, including the 2024 and '25 season finales before the '26 event was moved to July.
The new stadium is scheduled to open next year. The fate of the old stadium next door, still being used this fall, is uncertain. But Borchetta has long said he wanted his race to be held in downtown Nashville as numerous Indy races are run on street and road courses. He told The Tennessean newspaper if complete focus isn't placed on returning the race downtown, it won't happen.
The league has released its schedule for next year and the closest stops are Birmingham and Indianapolis, where the 111th running of the 500 will be held May 30.
The season will go green March 7 at St. Petersburg and hit the finish line Sept. 5 at Monterey, Calif., with 17 races in all. Nashville's replacement, set for July 18, is in Barcelona, Spain. The races held here in the 2000s were switched to a street course in Toronto, Canada, where the series continues to make a stop each year though event moved last year to nearby Markham.
