Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward enters his second season with the franchise in 2026.
It was a painful rookie year, but he's now primed for more success. He has a proven quarterback guru, Brian Daboll , as his offensive coordinator.
Throughout his time in the NFL, Daboll has had success with Josh Allen, Daniel Jones and even Jaxson Dart in the brief time he spent with him at the New York Giants.
Ward has been trying to learn everything he can from Daboll this offseason in the hopes of a better understanding of how to play quarterback in the NFL.
Daboll appeared on a recent episode of "The Install With Greg Cosell."
Cosell has been connected to the NFL for nearly half a century. He was the Senior Producer of NFL Films for 47 years.
We got some valuable insight into how Daboll develops quarterbacks. It's a detail-oriented process for the offensive coordinator.
"Well, I think the first part of it is the evaluation process," Daboll said. "So, you're evaluating all the things it takes to be a successful quarterback, but you're watching him operate in his style of offense. Whether that's a free agent from the NFL. Whether that's college and you go through a guy like Russell Wilson when he came in. You go through all their tape, and most guys have things that they're pretty good at. With their eyes, with their feet. Play structure, and that's where we really start. We get kind of the nuts and bolts of it now. We start digging into his footwork, the timing, situational play, because what I would hope at the end of it, when you're developing a guy, is that they're seeing the game through your eyes, and you're seeing it through their eyes. So, there's a lot of good give-and-take in there. It comes down to, you know, performance, and everybody's got a little bit of a different throwing technique. Everybody uses a tad bit different footwork, right? And based on the player, we try to tailor it to that guy."
There's no doubt that Daboll is one of the top developers of quarterback talent. His biggest success story is obviously Allen.
He helped turn him into a continual MVP contender. With Ward and the Titans, it's going to be a challenge.
The Titans have six games in two years and are in the middle of yet another rebuild with a new coaching staff.
Tennessee has given plenty of help. Whether it's Wan'Dale Robinson and Carnell Tate, or a promising rookie on the offensive line like Fernando Carmona to help protect him, the Titans have bolstered key offensive positions.
We'll see how the influx of talent and new coaching staff meshes with Ward as he learns from a quarterback guru like Daboll.
