It has now been a week since the San Francisco 49ers sent a 2027 fourth-round draft pick to the Indianapolis Colts for veteran three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. Now, there is one week to go before the NFL's Nov. 10 trade deadline, and the feeling is that the 49ers will make a real attempt to pull off another needle-moving trade.
Many feel the team needs a proven edge rusher, and plenty also feel it could use a legitimate threat at the wide receiver position. The Niners reportedly were set to land wideout Jauan Jennings, who had previously played for them until joining the Minnesota Vikings during the offseason, only for Jennings to state that he wanted to stay in Minnesota.
It looks like San Francisco will continue to be aggressive on the trade market until the deadline arrives.
The Niners are still looking for help
According to insider Jordan Schultz during an appearance on "The Pivot" podcast, the 49ers are looking to upgrade at both wide receiver and in the pass-rushing department.
"I don't think either team is done," Schultz said. "I think the 49ers are still looking for a receiver and pass rusher, while the [Chicago] Bears want another pass rusher and secondary help. So I wouldn't rule out another move from either team. There's a lot of Khalil Mack buzz for both clubs."
Mack, the veteran edge rusher who currently plays for the Los Angeles Chargers, has been linked to both the Niners and the Bears over the last couple of weeks. At age 35, he remains a viable player, and he could help put either team over the top.
He has logged three sacks, six quarterback hits and five tackles for loss so far this season. The Chargers are 0-7, and although reports have indicated that they aren't open to making any trades, as the deadline gets closer, they could come to their senses and move Mack for the right offer.
Another option for the 49ers, at least according to one analyst , could be Will McDonald IV of the New York Jets, another struggling AFC team.
On the other hand, Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson, as well as defensive end Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders, may not be realistic targets for the Niners, as both men are reportedly not being made available on the market. Members of the Niners Faithful and some writers who cover the team have been adamant that the organization does whatever it takes to land either star, even if it would cost first-round trade capital.
