The Jacksonville Jaguars dropped Friday's preseason game to the Carolina Panthers by a score of 34-17 . However, this time of the year, individual performances often take priority, with playing time, roles, and roster spots up for grabs.
With the clock having just hit zero, let's dive into our instant takeaways from the Jaguars ' performance.

- Not surprisingly, the Jaguars chose not to play their starters in this game.
- Rookies CJ Williams and Josh Cameron continue to stand out. The Jaguars have no shortage of talent at the top of the wide receiver depth chart, but finding some opportunities to get Cameron and Williams on the field this season may have to happen.
- With a potential roster spot up for grabs at linebacker, Yasir Abdullah may be the favorite for that role. Also, at tight end, Quintin Morris and Hunter Long may be battling for one roster spot.
- While the Jaguars starters did not play, Ventrell Miller and Branson Combs did continue to see snaps, just as they did a week ago. The competition between those two for playing time seems to be tight. Perhaps the Jaguars will explore a rotation in-season.

- Rookie safety Jalen Huskey continues to flash. He flies around the field and is a very willing tackler.
- Penalties were an issue early on. They've popped up throughout training camp and were something the Jaguars had to work through last year.
- First, second, or third team, the Jaguars' run defense is good.
- This was a much better performance from Nick Mullens after he struggled last week.
- J'Mari Taylor had a good showing last week, but tonight was a reminder not to forget about Ameer Abdullah , who has had a strong summer. He started at running back for Jacksonville in this game.

- A quiet night for the pass rush depth.
- Jaguars were taking a long look at Christian Braswell . Although on the roster last year and he saw regular snaps down the stretch, he may not be a roster lock at this point.
- Recently signed linebacker Jahlani Tavai made some noise as a blitzer.
- As noted by John Shipley , after 34 pass attempts by the Carolina quarterbacks, the Jaguars' defensive backs didn't have any pass breakups.
