Final walkout at San Siro, with Inter drawing against Verona amid chants, laughter, and a match played at a slow pace. After a dull first half, the Nerazzurri took the lead early in the second half with a Bonny header deflected by Edmundsson (an own goal by the defender). Hellas equalized at the death thanks to Bowie: the Scot has made a big impact in our league, beating Di Gennaro, who had come on shortly before for the celebrations.
The result was the last thing that mattered at San Siro for either team. It was essentially a placeholder match before the celebrations on the pitch and then on the open-top bus.
Amid all the substitutions and chants, Verona grabbed the equalizer through Bowie, a striker who has done brilliantly since arriving in Italy . He battled with Carlos Augusto and then fired a left-footed shot into the far corner. A really fine goal.
Standing ovation for Sommer , who left the pitch for Di Gennaro, a dressing-room figure to whom Chivu gave his first league minutes.
Shortly after the hour mark came the end of Matteo Darmian's final match at San Siro in an Inter shirt. 218 appearances in 6 years and 13 career trophies for the former Torino utility man.
Inter stepped up a gear in the second half and chances started to come thick and fast. Just before the hour mark, the ball stayed loose and Lautaro struck with the goal at his mercy, but Montipò produced an incredible save. Not the kind of mistake you expect from Lautaro.
Inter went ahead straight away in the 47th minute: a corner and Bonny's header took a touch off Edmundsson and ended up in the net. Goal or own goal? The league's decision is still pending, though for now it has been recorded as an own goal by the Faroe Islands defender.
In the 41st minute, Inter burst forward and turned the play around thanks to a surging run from Diouf, who then kept his cool to set up Mkhitaryan. The Armenian hit it first time, but Montipò hypnotized him.
As the move continued, Lautaro drove into the box and tried a diagonal shot, but the angle was tight and the ball went wide.
Inter couldn't break through, and the biggest chance actually fell to Verona: Bowie's header and Lovric's deflection forced Sommer, wrong-footed, into a brilliant open-handed save before he gathered the ball.
Shortly before that, on a very dangerous cross, the Swiss keeper judged it well and kept the ball on the line.
A true marvel: San Siro went wild to welcome Inter with a stunning choreography. Here are the details and photos!
Inter president Beppe Marotta spoke to DAZN about Chivu's renewal, but not only that. The Nerazzurri chief also responded to Cardinale, who earlier this week had taken a jab at Inter over the Champions League final lost to PSG .
"Cardinale's words? I have two replies in my pocket, one ironic and one serious. The serious one is: I wish him the chance to give Milan the same journey we've had over the last 6 years — 9 trophies, 2 Champions League finals and 1 Europa League final. I'll save the ironic one for another occasion.
As for Chivu, the renewal is only a formality: we're holding on tight to him because he is the present and the future."
