The Pittsburgh Steelers will have another option at quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been targeting the 2026 NFL Draft to find their next franchise quarterback for some time now, but players have continued to return to their respective college teams. That is no longer the case for one of the draft's most intriguing players, though.
According to ESPN insider Pete Thamel , the NCAA has denied Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss ' appeal for a sixth-year waiver, forcing him to enter the 2026 NFL Draft.
Chambliss' appeal was for a medical redshirt, but he and the school have been informed of the denied waiver and the NFL is certainly taking notice.
The 23-year-old is one of the most intriguing players in this year's draft class, one that is particularly weak at quarterback. He spent the first four seasons of his collegiate career at Ferris State before transferring to Ole Miss in 2025.
Chambliss led Ole Miss to the semifinals of the College Football Playoffs, before the Rebels' season ended in a 31-27 loss to Miami at the Fiesta Bowl. He threw for 3,937 yards, 22 touchdowns and just three interceptions while also rushing for 527 yards and eight more scores.
It remains unclear where teams would be willing to select Chambliss in this year's draft, but some mock drafts have already projected him as a Day 2 pick .
Though, there is still plenty of time for Chambliss' draft stock to change between now and the end of April as there are plenty of quarterback-needy teams like the Steelers, who could be willing to take a flyer on him.
