After an impressive breakout season in 2025, Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Montaric "Buster" Brown was rewarded with a three-year, $33 million deal during the offseason. Now, that performance is being recognized again.
Brown was selected by the Jaguars in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and initially saw little playing time as a rookie, mostly contributing on special teams. But he gradually worked his way to a larger role, which culminated in his career year in 2025.
Now, he's been named to the All-Seventh-Round Team by Daire Carragher for Pro Football Focus (PFF).
Carragher described Brown as a "total success story in Jacksonville," noting his "37.3 PFF grade as a rookie to a 72.0 grade in Year 4."
Brown proved that he was able to be a reliable starter on defense last season, allowing a completion rate of just 54% on 68 targets and holding opponents to just 10.4 yards per catch. He also had two interceptions and nine pass breakups.
While Jacksonville's offseason strategy has been largely criticized, extending Brown's contract received high praise , a further indication of how valued he has become. And head coach Liam Coen said he is expecting even bigger things from Brown in 2026.
"He's always kinda played in practice with confidence," Coen said. "There's areas in which he can continue to improve, but, look, we signed him to a deal, and he comes out and is just… him. He's practiced the same way, he's approached the meetings and practices and games the same way since I've been here the whole time, so he's consistent. He's a pro. I think we'll see another step from Buster this year in terms of confidence, especially in the red zone."
It's a pretty impressive progression for someone drafted in the seventh round.
