The Jacksonville Jaguars have officially placed DT DaVon Hamilton and S Eric Murray on injured reserve.
On Monday, head coach Liam Coen said that both would be out for the season.
Hamilton exited Sunday's game against Indianapolis with what was later determined to be a quad injury. Murray left with an elbow injury.
Losing Hamilton creates a big void, both in his play and in the leadership he brings to the team.
Hamilton plays a vital role in the Jaguars ' stingy run defense. Even on plays where he doesn't show up on the stat sheet, his ability to eat up space and take on blocks frees up other defenders to make plays.
In Hamilton's absence, the Jaguars will have to rely even more heavily on Arik Armstead, Ruke Orhorhoro, and rookie Albert Regis. Jacksonville also signed veteran Austin Johnson to the practice squad on Monday.
Without Murray, the Jaguars could turn to either Rayuan Lane or Kaevon Merriweather to start next to Antonio Johnson -- the other is likely the third safety in Anthony Campanile's defense. Jalen Huskey likely takes on a larger special teams role as a well as a result.
This season, Murray has made 14 total tackles and has held opponents to 6.0 yards per catch on only three receptions.
The Jaguars now have two openings on the 53-man roster to fill.
