The Jacksonville Jaguars will be one of the more intriguing teams to monitor in the 2026 NFL season . They are under a microscope following a surprising 2025 campaign, where they jumped from winning just four games a season before to 13 victories in their first year under head coach Liam Coen. Jacksonville also made the NFL playoffs for the first time since 2022, while topping the AFC South Division.
Can Jacksonville sustain that form, if not be even better in 2026? Wide receiver Parker Washington can help provide an answer to that. Entering a contract year, Washington has a clear reason to feel motivated every game; though, there are rumors that Jacksonville could sign him to a huge contract extension before the team's season opener.

"It is possible. Parker Washington is a hot name in Jacksonville right now because he's had a tremendous camp," Jeremy Fowler of ESPN said on Saturday.
"He's a safety valve for Trevor Lawrence. He's expected to have a big year, and because of that, he wants big dollars.

Now, both sides have been talking about a contract, and this one does have a chance to get done before Week 1. I'm told the player would prefer to get it done and not have it linger in season, whereas Jacksonville is comfortable continuing talks during the season if the player wants to engage."
Jacksonville does not have to rush signing Washington to an extension deal, but there's also a benefit if both the wideout and the Jaguars settle things before the season, as that could get rid of one potential distraction for the team.

Washington took a big leap in 2025, posting career-highs of 847 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 58 catches and 95 targets across 16 games. Just 24 years old, the former Penn State Nittany Lions star wide receiver has his best football likely still in front of him. He is expected to be among Lawrence's most trusted targets, so keeping him in the fold sounds just like something that Jacksonville will truly have to prioritize.
