Jahmai Simpson-Pusey leaves Manchester City for Bundesliga club
-
Manchester City have converted another Elite Development Squad (EDS) graduate into substantial profit, continuing a masterful trend of youth monetisation.
-
Having impressed coaching staff during a temporary continental stint, the highly-rated 20-year-old centre-back has now permanently committed his long-term future to Germany.
-
Sporting Director Hugo Viana has protected the club's long-term interests by firmly weaving protective matching and retrieval options into paperwork.
Manchester City have finalised a permanent exit for Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, ensuring a number of favourable clauses are included in the central defender's transfer.
The departure fuels an ongoing and aggressive summer transfer window operation, which includes an expectation to finalise a historic British transfer record pursuit of Nottingham Forest and England international Elliot Anderson .

The permanent departure of the 20-year-old FA Youth Cup-winning captain highlights the gold standard of Manchester City's modern academy pipeline, and the high regard in which talents are held throughout the top-level of the game.
Jahmai Simpson-Pusey , who originally joined the club's youth setup at under-8 level, has long been earmarked as a top-level defensive prospect, and firmly broke into Pep Guardiola's plans during a difficult winter period in the 2024/25 season.
However, with the first-team backline now packed with elite options – and the club actively working on the signing of a new right-sided full-back to compliment Matheus Nunes – the pathway to regular top-flight minutes at the Etihad Stadium is heavily congested.
FC Koln and Man City complete Simpson-Pusey transfer
Now, FC Köln have confirmed the signing of Manchester City's Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on a permanent transfer following his short-term loan deal with the German club in the second-half of last season.

The Premier League side have agreed to a sale worth an initial €5.5 million, with add-ons potentially taking the final total to €7.5 million, including a buy-back clause and matching rights in the deal.
Discussing the deal, Köln Managing Director Thomas Kessler said, "Jahmai has settled in very quickly since his move in the winter and immediately embraced the challenge at this level.
"His performances have shown the potential he possesses. We are all the more pleased that we have now been able to secure his services long-term.
"His development is yet another example of how 1. FC Köln offers a very good environment for young, talented players to take the next step in their careers."

Simpson-Pusey himself said, "I've gotten a lot of playing time here and the club has placed a lot of trust in me. I'm grateful for that and that's why I wanted to stay in Cologne.
"The playing time, the fans, the club – it all feels very good to me."
How will Manchester City reinvest funds?
The capital generated from the deal is likely to be instantly redirected toward more senior first-team reinforcements, particularly as City continue to negotiate with Evangelos Marinakis and Nottingham Forest over Elliot Anderson .
Enzo Maresca will certainly be determined to have his most primary targets signed, sealed, and integrated in time for the large majority of the squad travelling on the pre-season tour of Far-East Asia in late-July.

Other targets for the club are also expected to include a new winger, with Tottenham continuing to eye a big-money deal for Brazilian Savinho this summer, after having interest rebuffed last year.
