Cornerback had significant issues with his knee, and the mental consequences of that sequence. It doesn't sound like he's returning to the NFL.
The 2025 season was a nightmare for Jaire Alexander . A former All-Pro defensive player, the cornerback struggled to stay healthy because of a series of knee issues. That led to a release from the Green Bay Packers , short stints with the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles , and his tough decision to step away from football.
In an article for The Players' Tribune , Jaire Alexander detailed his struggles in terms of mental health. Part of that was the reality of not playing for the Packers anymore.
"I'd always thought of myself as a Packer for life, had always wanted to end my career in Green Bay ," Alexander wrote. "And yeah, I understand that the NFL is a business. I get that. But at the same time, just being honest here . . . it wasn't easy for me coming to grips with that possibility. With the idea of potentially not being a Packer anymore."
"After I got cut, I tried to pretend like it was no big thing, but I never really fully dealt with all the emotions I was feeling, you know what I mean? What I've realized since, in working with my therapist, is that me leaving Green Bay . . . it was almost like a marriage coming to an end. And for someone who had devoted so much of his life to this game, that's not gonna be something that happens and then you just move on like whatever. It lingers."
After being released from the Packers, Jaire signed with the Ravens but barely played. He appeared in only two games, allowing a 118.8 passer rating when targeted. Alexander then got traded to the Eagles and was getting ready to play the Packers when he decided to step away .
Months later, Jaire doesn't rule out a return to the football field. But it certainly doesn't look like the most likely scenario at this point.
"People still sometimes ask me if I'm ever gonna come back and play," Alexander mentioned. "And, you know what . . . I'll never say never - I still work out, and the knee's fine now, so I'm in good shape. But for me, right now, the most important thing really is just to be in a good place overall. To be happy."
Jaire Alexander is only 29 and has a lot of life ahead of him. He built a beautiful football career. But this goes way beyond the NFL, and his life is what truly matters.
