Panthers are doing what they can to give Bryce Young the right setup, and early signs suggest they might be ahead of schedule.
One reason? Jalen Coker has moved up the ranks quickly enough that he can't just be viewed as a depth option anymore.

Dave Canales mentioned that both Coker and Tetairoa McMillan will get 'the first opportunity to be out there to start,' which tells you everything you need to know about how things have shifted in Carolina's receiver room.
Even after missing the first six games of last season with a quad injury, Coker still managed to put up 42 catches for 528 yards and four touchdowns. He became more than just an emergency solution – he turned into a dependable target in an offence trying to settle around Young.
That matters because McMillan's rise was always going to get headlines. Coker's value is different. He gives Carolina another wideout that the quarterback already trusts to be in the right place.

It's the relationship with Bryce Young that stands out most
When Canales talked about 'Jalen Coker and TMac producing for us in an incredible way, and the chemistry with Bryce has certainly grown, it was clear he wasn't just talking about numbers on a stat sheet. That's usually something you hear when a player is making an impact that goes beyond the box score.

For a young quarterback, consistency and trust can be as valuable as raw athletic ability. Coker fits into that role well, helping to keep the offence in rhythm—a big part of why he's no longer just an unexpected contributor but someone likely to start.
Legette has a different challenge ahead of him now that Coker's no longer just a depth piece. Dave Canales said after the season that Legette needed to 'make the play' when he gets his opportunity, so these moves are not just about speculation anymore.
This is not about youth anymore. It is about players earning roles, and Coker is the one who can actually make it work. McMillan's rookie of the year campaign has already given Carolina a proper number-one option. But Coker's emergence might be even more important for the rest of the group.
He reduces the need to keep looking for reliable production elsewhere. If that connection holds steady into another season, it changes how we look at this group. The rebuild stops feeling like a work in progress and starts resembling an offence with two clear building blocks in place.
