- James Harrison slams Steelers' run defense and block shedding
For legendary Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison, physical, dominating defense is an uncompromisable standard. Yet, while analyzing defensive tape on his " Deebo & Joe " podcast, Harrison delivered a scathing critique of Pittsburgh's current scheme, highlighting a troubling role reversal where linebackers struggle to shed blocks while secondary players are forced to absorb frontline punishment.
Joined by former teammate and co-host Joe Haden, Harrison targeted the front seven's inability to disengage from blocks at the point of attack. The former Defensive Player of the Year voiced intense frustration after seeing under-200-pound wide receivers regularly control box defenders on the edge.

"We got these corners coming in here trying to play linebacker, man," Harrison observed, describing defensive backs who are routinely forced into heavy run-support roles. "We got dude over here, Brisker. He got on two arm braces... because like we playing linebacker."
Harrison pointed to specific tape examples where front-seven defenders allowed smaller skill players to erase them from run fits entirely.
"And then on top of that, you letting KC [Concepcion] block you," Harrison vented. "You letting KC block you, Q [Patrick Queen]? Come on, bro. KC Concepcion, he under 200. It's like everybody done forgot how to get off a block. Like we don't know how to disengage, how to get ourself free. One for one. You're going one for one. Can't go one for one."

According to Harrison, structural breakdowns occur when linebackers fail to shed blocks efficiently, forcing cornerbacks into unnatural roles and leaving the defense soft along the perimeter.
For Pittsburgh to restore its traditional standard, Harrison argues that front-seven defenders must stop taking "one-for-one" blocks and start setting physical edges on game day.
