The Detroit Lions picked up a major 19-15 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8, and though it wasn't his best performance, quarterback Jared Goff was a key part of the victory.
Goff completed 18 of 25 passes for 176 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception. The former No. 1 overall pick made plays when the Lions needed them most, and has been a catalyst for the team's 5-2 start.
Detroit is riding a three-game winning streak heading into its Week 9 contest against the Miami Dolphins, and the national outlets are giving Goff a lot of the praise for the success.

In its latest rankings of each starting quarterback in the NFL, CBS Sports had Goff at No. 2 . Author Garrett Podell dropped Goff from the top spot, but still praised the Lions' signal-caller for his work against a tough Vikings defense and keeping the ball out of harm's way all season.
Goff is a legitimate MVP candidate. The California product is seventh in the league in passing yards (1,964), tied for fifth in passing touchdowns (15), and is tied for second in the fewest interceptions thrown (1). He is playing at an elite level and has the Lions in a fantastic position to be one of the top contenders in the NFC.
In Week 9, Goff has a chance to post prolific numbers against a struggling Dolphins squad and bolster his case to be the top quarterback in the sport. The 32-year-old is only getting better and could be in for a career year.
