Jaylen Brown did his best to carry the Celtics offense in Game 2 but it wasn’t enough on an ugly night for the hosts on both ends of the floor.
Brown finished with a game-high 36 points, and his performance makes him Tuesday’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game. The Name to Know Player of the Game is sponsored by John’s Sewer and Drain Cleaning, the Name to Know when your drains don’t flow .
The scoring outburst was wasted for Boston , however, in a 111-97 upset loss to the 76ers that evened up the series at 1-1. Just one Boston player other than Brown scored in double figures in the loss as the the hosts shot a collective 39.3 percent from the field and 26 percent from 3-point range (13-of-50).
Brown was the lone efficient wing among Boston’s regulars, knocking down 11-of-24 attempts from the field and 5-of-12 from 3-point range. He also bounced back from a 1-of-4 start at the free throw line to finish 9-of-12 at the charity stripe. He added seven rebounds and four assists in his 38 minutes but went cold like his teammates down the stretch. Boston was outscored 20-8 in the final six minutes of regulation, turning a two-point deficit into a double-digit loss.
Brown and the Celtics will now get two days off to regroup for Game 3 in Philadelphia where they will likely need other throw a few new wrinkles into the defensive gameplay after the Sixers shot 19-of-39 from 3-point range in Game 2. Boston will also need to fare better on their 3-point looks as the team’s starting five outside of Brown went an ugly 6-of-26 from 3-point range.
The Celtics and 76ers tip off Game 3 at 7 p.m. from Xfinity Mobile Arena on Friday night.
