The NBA recently implemented new measures to curb tanking moving forward, but it won't impact the Utah Jazz this season, who were recently awarded the number two pick in the NBA Draft. The top two prospects in the draft are widely considered to be AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson , with the Washington Wizards having the top pick.
Some have wondered whether the Jazz might look to trade up with the Wizards in order to draft Dybantsa, who many view as the top overall prospect in this class.
However, recently, cold water was dumped on those rumors by ClutchPoints' NBA insider Brett Siegel.
"The Jazz also won't trade the second pick in this year's draft, league sources told ClutchPoints, and they are thrilled to welcome either Dybantsa or Peterson to what they believe can be a threatening roster in the West for years to come," reported Siegel.
Siegel also noted that "…the overwhelming consensus around the league is that Dybantsa will, in fact, hear his name called first on June 23."
Thus, it would seem to follow that Peterson is most likely heading to Salt Lake City in June.
Peterson had a great year for the Kansas Jayhawks in 2025-26, showing an elite combination of size at the guard position, athleticism, and playmaking ability that seemingly makes him a perfect lead guard for the modern NBA.
The biggest cause for hesitation around Peterson is his availability concerns, as injuries flared up throughout the year, with some going so far as to question his love for basketball as a result of some late scratches from the lineup.
However, it doesn't appear that those concerns will cause him to drop any lower than number two in the upcoming draft, which is slated for June 23.
