The Utah Jazz have some decisions to make over the next few weeks, and one of them is agreeing to terms with Walker Kessler on a long-term deal. Recent reports noted that they weren't on the same page, but it seems like there is still a chance they will come to an agreement , according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.
"Negotiations between Kessler and the Jazz have stalled slightly, and other suitors are already preparing to submit bids for the 24-year-old big man when free agency begins. That is why the Jazz want to find common ground on a deal right now, and sources around the league still believe this to happen. Whether Kessler wants to take this into the open market is the decision that is unknown right now after overlooking a $140 million contract offer, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon," Siegel wrote.
With the $14o million offer on the table for Kessler, it would be the first time a center was given that type of contract without an All-Star appearance. There's no doubt that the Jazz think highly of Kessler, and he's shown through his young career that he's the future in the frontcourt alongside Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr.
Before tearing his torn labrum in his left shoulder five games into last season, Wessler was averaging 14.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.8 blocks and 1.4 steals per game.
Outside of Wessler, Keyonte George is also dealing with contract issues with the Jazz, according to McMahon.
"Sources also expressed doubt that the Jazz would reach an agreement on a rookie contract extension with guard Keyonte George despite the franchise's optimism that he will play a key role in Utah's future after his breakout third season," MacMahon wrote.
With the expectation that the Jazz may select Darryn Peterson with the No. 2 pick, George's future with the team is uncertain.
