- Jedd Fisch feels Washington football's running back unit is stable
As the Washington Huskies prepare to kick off fall camp on Thursday ahead of the 2026 season, there are few bigger questions on Jedd Fisch's team than at running back.
Following the 2025 season, star Jonah Coleman graduated before he was selected by the Denver Broncos in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL draft, while his heir apparent, sophomore Adam Mohammed, transferred to California. The Huskies chose to replace that production through the transfer portal, adding seniors Jayden Limar from Oregon and Trey Cooley from Troy.
Combined with redshirt freshman Quaid Carr and true freshmen Brian Bonner and Ansu Sanoe, the trio of whom took the majority of carries during spring practice after sophomore Jordan Washington suffered a neck injury that is expected to keep him off the field for the entirety of the 2026 season, Fisch still feels confident in what he can get from the position this fall.
"When you look at who the world saw in spring ball, you saw a lot of freshmen. A lot of freshmen," Fisch told Huskies Wire at Big Ten Media Days in Chicago . "I think having Jayden Limar full go, which he is right now, Trey Cooley is at about 90 percent go. Quaid Carr, 100 percent go. Then you look at, now you're talking about Bonner and Ansu, kind of getting back into their rotation of being, 'Ok, I'm young, and I'm learning the way, and I'm feeling the ropes,' rather than being thrown into the fire right off the bat.'"
One of the biggest ways the young running backs were thrown into the fire during spring practice was in the area of pass protection, where losing Coleman to the NFL could make a major impact early in the season. However, now that Limar is healthy and Cooley is close to returning, Fisch feels the seniors can stabilize that area of the offense.
"You know, you've got Brian Bonner having to block (linebacker) Jacob (Manu) through the A gap in the spring is a lot different than Jayden Limar doing it because of just experience," he continued. "So that running back room will make a big difference, and having those two guys back will, I think, stabilize them."
