The Miami Dolphins plan to hire Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley as their next coach, according to reports from ESPN and NFL Network, taking another one of the Tennessee Titans finalists for their coaching vacancy off the market.
Hafley, 46, has spent the last two years working as defensive coordinator for the Packers. Prior to arriving in Green Bay , Hafley worked as a position coach, coordinator and head coach in the college and professional ranks, most notably serving four years as coach at Boston College (2020-23).
Hafley has been a sought-after name on the NFL coaching market this offseason. In addition to interest from the Titans , Hafley was requested for interviews by the Arizona Cardinals , Atlanta Falcons , Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers . He was viewed as an early frontrunner for the Dolphins job due to his overlapping time in Green Bay with first-year Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan.
With Hafley being hired, the Titans ' two known remaining finalists are Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. Both have scheduled in-person interviews with the Titans now that those are permitted for coaches under contract with other franchises.
Hafley is the third candidate the Titans were connected to who's been hired before he could meet with the team. The New York Giants hired John Harbaugh before the Titans could interview him, and the Falcons hired Kevin Stefanski before he could return to Nashville for a second interview.
The Titans have interviewed 16 candidates for their coaching vacancy. In addition to Saleh and Nagy, other remaining candidates who've yet to accept jobs include Mike McCarthy, Mike McDaniel, Brian Daboll, Vance Joseph and Jesse Minter.
