While visiting his alma mater, Oregon , for its annual spring game, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jeffrey Bassa praised a college coach's preparation in an interview with Big Ten Network's Chris Clayton.
"I think it prepared me tremendously, especially playing in Coach Lanning's defense. That's a defense that not a lot of people are running nowadays," said Bassa , "And I feel like that defense really prepared me, especially for me going from here to the Chiefs, you know, with Coach Spags (Steve Spagnuolo) and the Chiefs running a complex defense. I feel like I was really prepared when it came to the mental aspect of the game."
Bassa was named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten Conference with the Ducks in his last season. The coaching he received in college continues to play a significant role in his development.
The Oregon standout was selected in the fifth round with the 156th pick in this year's NFL Draft, developing into a versatile signal-caller and occasional secondary option while learning under key veterans. He played prominently on special teams as a rookie with the Chiefs, but could see more time on defense next season.
