The Jets held their first of two joint practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday before the sides face off in preseason game action on Friday.
There was a scary moment with one of the Jets players, but the initial news appears to be positive.
Here's what head coach Aaron Glennhad to say after the practice was over...
Qwan'tez Stiggers update
There was a tense moment in Florham Park on Tuesday, as cornerback Qwan'tez Stiggersmade his way to the sideline and fainted. He was quickly attended to by the Jets' medical staff and was taken to an ambulance to a local hospital.
According to Glenn, Stiggers was conscious and talking on the sidelines, but the head coach didn't have any more information on exactly what happened.
"What I know, he came to the sideline after a play, and he actually [passed out]. The good thing is that he was conscious," Glenn said. "Our guys did a hell of a job, just like most medical staffs around this league do in situations like that, and they took the necessary steps just to make sure that we do everything that we can just to make sure to be on board during those situations. He was able to talk, and I want to make sure that I go and see him after this just to make sure that I'm good with everything. But for the most part, he was good.
"He came to the sideline and he just passed out… But again, the good thing is that he was conscious on the sideline. I'm happy about that."
Later Tuesday evening, Stiggers was released from the hospital and was home recovering.
Pair of skirmishes break out
Multiple fights broke out during Tuesday's practice. The first involved rookie David Baileyand Bucs O-lineman Luke Goedeke , and the second happened after Bucs D-tackle A'Shawn Robinsonripped off Armand Membou's helmet.
Glenn said that those things are just part of joint practices, but he never wants to see the same players involved in multiple fights.
"Good, hard practice, which I knew it would be, against a team that's been to the playoffs a number of years, against a team that has a scheme, from a defensive standpoint, that's difficult to deal with, and those guys have been in that scheme for a long time with Todd [Bowles]," Glenn said.
"Obviously, there are going to be some dust-ups, that happens in every joint practice. But I thought the guys did a really good job of forgetting about it, going to the next play and continue practicing."
"These things always happen," he added later. "The thing is, when they do happen, is it continuous and is it the same players. When it comes to the same players like we had, you kick the players out, because then it becomes more than just practice, and that's on both sides."
Starters will play on Friday night
Glenn confirmed that the Jets will play their starters in Friday night's game against Tampa , saying "everyone's playing."
Exactly how much the starters will play remains to be seen, but Glenn noted that both sides of the ball are playing in new systems, and there's actually some science to starters getting a certain number of game reps during the preseason.
"I think it's important for our guys to play," Glenn said. "Now there's science behind this also, as far as having joint practices and trying to get the guys, at least throughout the preseason, 25-30 reps, and I'm talking about all three games [combined]. And I don't know how I'll divvy that up. It's a feel when you go in the preseason, but what they say is when you have joint practices where the ones get a lot of reps and then you have that many plays, 25-30 reps in the preseason throughout those three games, the risk of injury actually goes down in the first part of the year."
