Joe Brunner met with media members this week to discuss the state of the offensive line and the challenges ahead as Indiana prepares for another hostile environment on the road.
Discipline has been a major pillar for the group early in the season. Coming off a clean performance with zero penalties last week, Brunner emphasized that avoiding mental mistakes is non-negotiable. Reaching that standard across both sides of the ball is vital to winning football games, and the unit intends to maintain that focus as the schedule intensifies.

The offensive line has also powered a dominant ground attack, racking up 600 rushing yards through two conference matchups. Brunner credited the relentless work ethic of the running back room for the surge. While acknowledging that there are still details to clean up, he expressed excitement over the production and growth within the group.
Facing a talented opposing front this weekend presents a new test. Brunner noted that their upcoming opponent features a mix of size and speed on the defensive line that requires rigorous film study and repetition during practice. Identifying pre-snap tells from linebackers and safety rotations will be an important element of the game plan as the week progresses.
Playing on the road in a sold out stadium with a notoriously loud environment brings its own unique energy. Brunner embraced the challenge of going into a hostile venue with a capacity crowd of ninety thousand fans. Having experienced legendary Big Ten atmospheres at places like Iowa and Ohio State, he views these environments as the ultimate test of team identity.
To prepare for the crowd noise, the team has utilized blaring audio during practice sessions. While the offense managed to operate primarily on a verbal clap count during their previous win at Rutgers, practicing with loud background noise ensures a smooth transition to a silent count if needed. Brunner noted that the group has worked on silent mechanics since spring ball, making it a familiar concept despite the high stakes.

Protecting the quarterback remains the number one priority for the front five. Brunner praised his signal caller as a phenomenal player and expressed total confidence in the unit's commitment to keeping him upright.
On an individual level, shifting back inside to guard alongside his linemate has been a positive adjustment. Brunner explained that his brief stint at tackle earlier provided valuable perspective, and the familiarity growing between them each week continues to pay dividends on the field. Ultimately, whether a run play stays inside or bounces outside depends on how defenses react, but the objective remains simple: execute the scheme and play sound football.
