After losing Game 4 to the New York Knicks — 144-114 — to complete a sweep in their second-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers , Joel Embiid looked back on the 2025-26 season.
When a reporter asked Embiid about his legacy , he said winning is always more important than personal accolades, he said, per PHLY Sports’ Derek Bodner.
“I haven’t won anything, so that hurts. But to go home and raise [his son], raise my daughter, look at my wife in the eyes and understand I’m a good man…Really, that’s all that matters.”
Joel Embiid led the 76ers with 24 points on a perfect 8-for-8 shooting, including two threes, and 6-for-7 free-throw attempts.
Why Joel Embiid considers 76ers’ 2025-26 season a success
Head coach Nick Nurse applauded 76ers center Joel Embiid’s effort . Playing through an ankle and hip injury during the 76ers’ second-round series against the Knicks, Embiid missed the second game of the best-of-7 series before returning for Games 3 and 4.
Despite watching the 76ers’ season end, Embiid is appreciative for reaching the Eastern Conference semifinals, which is something he admits he didn’t see coming at the start of the regular season, he said, per PHLY Sports’ Derek Bodner.
“For me, this [season] was a success. I came into this year not knowing where I’d be, how long I was going to play, if I was even going to be able to play…I came in hoping for the best,” Embiid added. “I feel like we’re in a position where we figured out the knee. If it wasn’t for the oblique, some of the other stuff I had, it could have been different.”
The Knicks will face the winner of the Pistons-Cavs series in the Eastern Conference Finals.
