Johnny Wilson 's bid to carve out a role in the Eagles ' passing game ended with another injury setback Friday when Philadelphia waived the wide receiver with an injury designation.
Wilson entered training camp competing for a reserve role after losing the 2025 season to knee and ankle injuries. His return offered a chance to prove the size, blocking ability and red-zone potential that intrigued Philadelphia in the 2024 draft could translate into a larger role.
Instead, another knee problem kept Wilson out of practices and ended his bid for the 53-man roster.
The Eagles selected the 6-foot-6 receiver from Florida State in the sixth round in 2024. Wilson appeared in 16 games as a rookie, catching five passes for 38 yards and one touchdown. His impact was noticeable as a blocker, where his frame and approach gave Philadelphia flexibility in the running game. Wilson appeared positioned to build on that foundation entering his second season. A heartbreaking training camp injury instead required knee and ankle surgeries, beginning a rehabilitation process that extended into 2026.
He returned this summer facing increased competition from Dontayvion Wicks , Hollywood Brown , Makai Lemon, Darius Cooper and Elijah Moore . Missing practice time made a difficult roster climb even steeper.
Wilson will now go through waivers. If unclaimed, he can revert to the Eagles' injured reserve list unless the two sides agree to an injury settlement.
