- Jordan Mailata's elite season is getting lost in the Eagles' struggles
The Philadelphia Eagles have struggled offensively through the first seven games of the season, but left tackle Jordan Mailata continues to provide consistency that has been hard to find elsewhere on the roster.
While Philadelphia enters Week 8 with a 2-5 record and five consecutive losses, Mailata has quietly established himself as one of the NFL's highest-graded offensive tackles.

According to Pro Football Focus grades cited in the Eagles ' weekly game notes, Mailata ranks third among NFL tackles with an 86.7 overall offensive grade and third at the position with an 86.1 pass-blocking grade. His performance is especially impressive given the injuries, personnel changes, and inconsistent production around him on Philadelphia's offensive line.
Mailata has also been the Eagles' most dependable offensive player in terms of availability, appearing on every offensive snap through the first seven games. He is the only player on the roster to do so, an important distinction for a unit that has experienced considerable instability.
The numbers help tell the story of a veteran offensive lineman performing at an elite level despite the team's broader problems.
Philadelphia has struggled to protect its quarterbacks consistently and establish a productive running game, contributing to an offense ranked near the bottom of the league in scoring and total yardage. Those struggles have been compounded by offensive line changes, including the retirement of Lane Johnson and the departure of center Cam Jurgens.

Mailata, however, has remained a steady presence at left tackle, handling one of the offense's most demanding assignments while providing stability in pass protection.
His production has become especially important after the loss of Jalen Hurts for the rest of the season. With Tanner McKee now directing Philadelphia's offense, dependable blind-side protection is essential for a passing attack trying to establish rhythm and consistency.
Mailata's grades suggest he has continued to perform at a high level regardless of who is behind him.
The 29-year-old Australian has become one of Philadelphia's most important offensive players since entering the NFL as a seventh-round pick in the 2018 draft. A former rugby player who had never played organized American football before joining the Eagles, Mailata has grown into a cornerstone of the offensive line.

His size, athleticism, and experience have allowed Philadelphia to build its protection around him, and his continued improvement has been a key development during a disappointing season.
Mailata's recent performance against Carolina offered another example of that consistency. According to PFF's offensive line analysis, he did not allow a pressure across 52 pass-blocking snaps in Philadelphia's 25-14 loss to the Panthers. The performance came despite another difficult afternoon for an offense that struggled to generate sustained production.
That distinction matters when evaluating individual performances on a losing team. Philadelphia's offensive statistics reflect significant issues across multiple positions, but those shortcomings should not obscure players who continue to execute their responsibilities effectively. Mailata's grades show he's remained among the league's best tackles even as the Eagles have struggled to create explosive plays, sustain possessions, and consistently score.
His availability has been equally valuable. Offensive line continuity is particularly important for communication, identifying defensive pressure and establishing timing in the running game. With Philadelphia repeatedly adjusting its personnel, Mailata has provided a reliable presence for a group still trying to develop chemistry.

The Eagles will need that consistency entering Sunday's matchup against the Washington Commanders, especially as McKee tries to keep the offense productive and Philadelphia looks to end its five-game losing streak.
Mailata cannot solve every problem facing an offense averaging just 18.1 points per game. However, his performance provides evidence that the Eagles still have high-level talent capable of helping turn things around. For a team searching for answers amid a disappointing start, Mailata's season deserves recognition as one of Philadelphia's clearest individual successes.
