Josh Pierson will drive for A.J. Foyt Racing in the 2027 IndyCar season. He joins Dennis Hauger, who is moving from Coyne Racing to the Foyt team. This new lineup replaces the drivers used in 2026. The team announced the deal on Tuesday, October 27. Pierson will pilot the No. 4 Chevrolet alongside Hauger.
This move marks Pierson's first full-time ride in the series. He holds the record as the youngest driver to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, according to RaceFans . He set that mark in 2022 at age 16. Now he moves to American open-wheel racing with a multi-year contract. Foyt is building a fresh team for the next season.

A Fresh Start for Foyt Racing
A.J. Foyt Racing has made a clean break from its past roster. The team ran Santino Ferrucci and Caio Collet in 2026. Both drivers are gone now. The organization wants a new identity as it heads into 2027. Pierson and Hauger represent that change. They have different backgrounds but share a need to prove themselves in IndyCar.
Pierson comes from a strong junior formula background. He finished his third season in IndyNxt this year. He placed 11th in the standings. He did win one race at Laguna Seca. That victory shows he can handle the pressure of a win. Hauger brings experience from European racing. He spent his time at Coyne before this move to Foyt.
Foyt has struggled to find consistent speed in recent years. Bringing in two drivers who are not yet stars in the series allows for growth. Pierson is not a veteran. He is a talent who needs a seat to shine. Hauger is also looking for a fresh start. The team avoids the cost of a big-name veteran who might demand more money. Instead, they invest in potential.

The deal is multi-year, which gives Pierson stability. Young drivers often jump from team to team. A multi-year deal lets a driver focus on learning the car. Pierson has the history of success in endurance racing. He knows how to manage a long race. That skill will help him in IndyCar, where strategy matters. Hauger's move from Coyne shows he is ready for a bigger platform.
The 2027 season will have new faces at the front. Pierson's arrival adds a driver who has already made headlines. His Le Mans record is a talking point. Fans know his name from before he ever drove an IndyCar. This helps the team market the No. 4 car. It also puts pressure on other teams to keep their own drivers sharp.
Dennis Hauger's move changes the dynamic at Coyne Racing too. They will need a new driver to fill his spot. Foyt gains a driver who knows the American series rules. Pierson spent his last year in IndyNxt. He knows the tracks and the teams. This reduces the learning curve for his first full season. The team avoids the risk of a total unknown.
The Road Ahead for Pierson
Pierson faces a steep climb to the top of the standings. He is 11th in his last series, but IndyCar is faster. The cars are more complex. The competition is deeper. He must adapt quickly to avoid mistakes. The multi-year deal gives him time to learn. But he cannot take too long to show results.

His record at Le Mans shows he can handle big moments. He was only 16 when he raced there. That level of maturity helps now. He has already faced pressure in a major event. IndyCar races are shorter, but the pace is intense. He will need to use his endurance skills to save fuel and tires. The team will expect him to improve every race.
Hauger's New Challenge
Dennis Hauger leaves Coyne for a team with more history. A.J. Foyt Racing is one of the oldest names in the sport. It carries a legacy of wins. Hauger must live up to that name. He has to show he can drive the No. 4 car well. His move is a chance to step up his career. If he succeeds, he becomes a key part of the team.
The partnership with Pierson is a test for both drivers. They will share data and setup information. They will push each other in practice. This internal competition often makes a team faster. If one driver struggles, the other can help find the solution. It is a smart way to build a strong unit for 2027.

The announcement came on Tuesday. The team posted the news on social media. They highlighted Pierson's age record and his recent IndyNxt season. The focus is on the future. Foyt is not looking back at 2026. They are looking ahead to 2027. The new drivers are the first step in that plan.
This deal changes the landscape of the grid. It gives Pierson a real shot at the series. It gives Hauger a better platform. It gives Foyt a chance to rebuild. The 2027 season will be the first test.
