The Kansas City Chiefs left Week 6 with more than another victory. Their 22-6 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Oct. 18, 2026, kept them unbeaten at 5-0 and delivered a historic achievement for linebacker Nick Bolton.
Bolton recorded 11 tackles against Los Angeles, giving him 26 career games with at least 10 tackles and moving him past Derrick Johnson for the most such games in franchise history. The milestone highlighted the Chiefs' defensive strength during an impressive start to the season.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes also reached 100 regular-season wins as a starter, matching Tom Brady for the fewest starts needed to reach that mark. With Kenneth Walker III adding 128 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, Kansas City had several reasons to celebrate as it prepared for its next challenge.
Nick Bolton claims a place in Chiefs history
Bolton recorded 11 tackles against Los Angeles, bringing his career total of games with at least 10 tackles to 26. That moved him past former Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson, who previously held the franchise mark.
The achievement reflects Bolton's steady presence in the middle of Kansas City's defense. Double-digit tackle performances require consistent involvement, and the linebacker has built a reputation as a dependable contributor since entering the NFL.

Bolton's record came during a game in which the Chiefs defense repeatedly disrupted the Chargers. Kansas City registered four sacks, forced two takeaways and stopped Los Angeles from reaching the end zone, helping secure the team's fifth victory.
Patrick Mahomes reaches 100 regular-season wins
Mahomes also reached a major career milestone against the Chargers, earning his 100th regular-season win as a starting quarterback. He achieved the mark in his 131st start, matching Tom Brady for the fewest starts needed to reach 100 wins.
The quarterback completed 23 of 30 passes for 272 yards. Although he threw an interception, Kansas City controlled the game for much of the afternoon and built a 19-3 halftime lead before adding a fourth-quarter field goal.

Mahomes' milestone adds to his already remarkable résumé, but the Chiefs' immediate priority remains winning games. His experience and ability to manage difficult stretches continue to matter as Kansas City pursues another deep postseason run.

The Chiefs extend their unbeaten start
Kansas City improved to 5-0 through Week 6, making it the only undefeated team in the AFC at that point. The team had also enjoyed a Week 5 bye, meaning its perfect record extended across five games.
The start marked the third time the Chiefs had opened 5-0 under head coach Andy Reid and Mahomes. According to the team, that coach-quarterback combination became only the fourth in league history to achieve the feat.

An unbeaten record does not guarantee a championship, particularly with most of the regular season still ahead. However, Kansas City's early consistency gives it a strong foundation while its coaches continue refining the offense and defense.
Kenneth Walker powers the offense
Running back Kenneth Walker III delivered one of the game's defining performances, rushing for 128 yards and 2 touchdowns on 19 carries. His explosive runs helped Kansas City establish control early and maintain separation from Los Angeles.
Walker scored on a 33-yard run in the first quarter, then added a 2-yard touchdown before halftime. His second score helped extend the lead, and Harrison Butker's 50-yard field goal just before the break made it 19-3.

Walker's production has been a major part of Kansas City's early success. The Chiefs' official Week 6 recap reported that he had reached at least 100 rushing yards in 4 of the team's first 5 games, giving the offense a reliable ground threat alongside Mahomes.
Kansas City's defense delivers a statement
The defense made the Chargers work for every opportunity. Kansas City sacked quarterback Justin Herbert 4 times, ending a three-game stretch without a sack and turning its pressure into tangible results.
The Chiefs also forced 2 takeaways. Linebacker Jack Cochrane intercepted Herbert in the second quarter, while a fourth-quarter fumble forced by cornerback L'Jarius Sneed was recovered by linebacker Drue Tranquill.

Los Angeles managed just 6 points, all from field goals, despite reaching the Kansas City 1-yard line early in the second half. A holding penalty stalled that drive, and the Chargers settled for 3 points instead of a touchdown.

The AFC West remains within Kansas City's control
The victory moved Kansas City to 3-0 against AFC West opponents. Winning division games is especially valuable because those results can influence the standings and potential playoff positioning later in the season.
The Chiefs have also enjoyed sustained success against their division rivals in recent years. The team's official recap noted that Kansas City held a 39-12 record against the AFC West since 2018, the best mark against a team's own division over that span.

Still, the division race is far from settled. The Chiefs must continue performing against familiar opponents while navigating a demanding schedule, and every future divisional matchup will provide another test of their consistency.
Seattle provides the next test
Kansas City's next scheduled matchup is a road game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Oct. 25. The prime-time contest will offer the Chiefs another opportunity to protect their unbeaten record away from home.
The team will look to carry its defensive momentum into Seattle while maintaining the balance that has helped its offense succeed. Walker's running production, Mahomes' passing and the defense's improved pressure all remain key elements to watch.

The result will not erase the importance of the milestones already reached, but it could shape the conversation around Kansas City's early-season form. A sixth consecutive win would strengthen the Chiefs' position as the season moves deeper into the schedule.
Fun fact:Travis Kelce became the 7th player in NFL history to reach 1,100 career regular-season receptions during the Chiefs' Week 6 win over the Chargers.
