- Kansas City Royals news: Michael Massey was a huge success in 2026
This past season, second baseman Michael Massey finally showed what he can truly do as a Royal.
Michael Massey entered this past Spring Training fighting for a spot on the Royals' roster after an injury-plagued 2025 campaign, with the possibility of splitting time between second base and left field.
But even with his role uncertain, Massey had made one goal clear: He wanted to be a Gold Glove-caliber defender.
Eight months later, the 28-year-old is coming off one of his strongest Major League seasons to date. His turnaround, which included improved offensive numbers and an American League Gold Glove finalist selection, has given the Royals a different outlook at second base heading into 2027.
In case you missed it, Bobby Witt Jr. is an MVP finalist again.
Angeibel Gomez keeps receiving recognition.
As the second-youngest player ever to appear in the AFL, the 17-year-old outfielder has held his own nicely in the jump from the Dominican Summer League with a .306/.390/.444 line over 10 games for Surprise. Gomez has true five-tool potential and has seen time at all three outfield spots this fall, though the bulk of his time has come in right.
Zion Rose and Justin Lamkin also were talked about in the article above.
