- Kansas State football adds Oregon RB in transfer portal after CFP loss
MANHATTAN — After making his name known during a College Football Playoff semifinal , Oregon transfer running back Jay Harris is committing to Kansas State .
On3's Pete Nakos reported on Monday, Jan. 12, that Harris will sign with the Wildcats. He's days removed from being one of the Ducks' lone bright spots in their Peach Bowl loss to Indiana.
Harris saw extended action for Oregon when the Ducks' top two rushers were either limited or out due to injury. He played in the game, while in the transfer portal, and was one of two scholarship running backs available for Oregon, which lost 56-22 to the Hoosiers.
Harris' numbers didn't pop, running the ball 16 times for 39 yards and a touchdown. His longest rush of the evening was for seven yards. He finished the year with 42 carries for 151 yards with two touchdowns, to go along with six receptions for 89 yards.
The 6-foot-2, 224-pound running back played two seasons at Oregon after transferring in 2024 from Division II Northwest Missouri State , where he ran for 1,433 yards with 14 touchdowns as a sophomore. He's a St. Louis native who played high school ball at Timberland High (Missouri).
Harris will have one season of eligibility remaining. He's the second running back to join the Wildcats out of the transfer portal, joining Oklahoma State transfer Rodney Fields. The Wildcats lost four running backs to the portal, including Antonio Martin, JB Price, DeVon Rice and Dylan Edwards.
Harris should have an opportunity to compete for some playing time, although the combination of Joe Jackson and Fields appears to be the Wildcats' one-two punch. He boosts the talent in the running back room, giving the Wildcats depth that they didn't have a year ago.
