MANHATTAN — Kansas State football is set to hire the new leader of its offensive line , according to a national report.
Collin Klein is "expected to hire" San Diego State offensive line coach Mike Schmidt to the same position at Kansas State , according to ESPN insider Pete Thamel. He also serves as the program's run-game coordinator.

Schmidt will depart his alma mater, where he played and got his start as an assistant from 2009-20. He left the Aztecs in 2021 to become Syracuse's offensive line coach , and was then promoted to its run-game coordinator in 2022.
He was Mississippi State's run-game coordinator, tight ends and tackles coach in 2023, before returning to San Diego State for the last two seasons.
SDSU's offensive line led the nation's 20th-ranked rushing attack, which nearly averaged 200 yards per game. The Aztecs also gave up the 25th-fewest sacks in the country.
Other career highlights included Syracuse leading the ACC in rushing in 2021 upon his arrival. The Orange had a 1,000-yard rusher the next season in Sean Tucker in 2022, who was named an All-American.

His first stint at San Diego State saw the Aztecs play in 10 straight bowl games, with 15 different offensive linemen earning all-Mountain West honors and three who were selected in the NFL Draft.
