- Kansas State loses first starter to portal after Klieman retirement
MANHATTAN — Kansas State football safety Qua Moss became the first player to enter the transfer portal following the retirement of head coach Chris Klieman.
CBS Sports insider Matt Zenitz reported Moss's departure, citing his agents. It comes after he made 41 tackles and two interceptions this season. He was among the highest-graded players on the Wildcats' defense, according to Pro Football Focus.
Moss was a starter at safety in his lone season with the Wildcats after transferring from FCS West Georgia . The West Point, Georgia, native will have one season of eligibility remaining after starting his career at Dodge City Community College.
His best performance of the season came in the Wildcats' Sept. 27 win over UCF, in which he made a pair of tackles, including one for a loss, and made a highlight interception in the game's final minutes to seal the game.
K-State will also lose safeties Gunner Maldonado and VJ Payne to graduation. Among the safeties still on the roster are Daniel Cobbs and Colby McCalister.
Klieman announced his retirement on Wednesday, Dec. 3, after seven years as coach.
