Special teams play can fly under the radar. It's often forgotten about until that unit has to make a play in a critical moment. For the Jacksonville Jaguars , they boast one of the top punter, long-snapper, and kicker trios in the NFL, allowing them to capitalize on those key opportunities.
Cam Little has provided a steady presence at kicker since entering the NFL, and gives the Jaguars a massive advantage with his ability to hit field goals from very long range.
Punter Logan Cooke is a one-time Pro Bowler and was named a second-team All-Pro in 2024. Last season, he and the punt coverage unit ranked sixth in net yards per punt return allowed.
Long-snapper Ross Matiscik is a three-time Pro Bowler and a two-time first-team All-Pro.
So what's contributed to the success that this trio has had?
"The way you see them work every day, there's a reason why they're so talented and why they're so good," special teams coordinator Heath Farwell said, via Jaguars.com . "They're typically the first guys out here on the field warming up, getting ready, prepping, they are so much about it. It's important to be great. They help each other; they hold each other accountable. Together the three of them, they bond and it's special to watch."
Although not always the center of attention, special teams play can have a big role in determining the outcome of games. Not only by making their field goal attempts, but strong kick and punt coverage units can flip the field position battle, helping to create scoring opportunities for the Jaguars' offense or forcing the opponent to put together long drives.
As the Jaguars look to build upon last season's success, Little, Cooke, and Matiscik will play key roles in accomplishing that.
