Karl-Anthony Towns had a huge grin as he was being interviewed in the locker room after the New York Knicks escaped the Boston Celtics , 112-106, at Madison Square Garden on Thursday.
Towns had 16 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and two steals to help the Knicks improve to 52-28 and pull within two games of the Celtics for the second seed in the Eastern Conference.
Josh Hart came up big down the stretch, hitting two three-pointers in the last 42 seconds to lift New York. While Towns was happy with their victory, he was more delighted in giving credit to Hart.
"He made a big shot, a big shot, the heartbreaker comes through," said Towns in the video posted by SNY.
"The first one was special because he was wide-open, and then he turned that one down and shot the contested three and made that one. True Josh Hart fashion, whoever watches Knicks basketball. The second one was just contested, but he felt good after the first one, no hesitation, made it."
Hart scored 15 of his team-high 26 points in the fourth quarter, displaying the grit and competitiveness that have served him well throughout his career. He shot 10-of-15 from the field, including 5-of-7 from deep.
The 30-year-old Towns also touted the significance of the 31-year-old Hart to the Knicks.
"He's a special player. He does so much for our team that doesn't show up on the stat sheet. But at any moment, he could do those things, and we trust him with the ball," added Towns.
Aside from his workhorse approach, Hart has endeared himself to fans in the Big Apple because of his vibrant personality, injecting humor and fun in the locker room.
The Knicks will close out their schedule against the Toronto Raptors and the Charlotte Hornets .
