Kobel reflects on Newcastle interest and his Borussia Dortmund future
Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel has consistently been linked with a transfer over the past few years.
Last summer, Newcastle United were reportedly interested in the Swiss shot-stopper, but he insists he never considered leaving BVB.

"Honestly, I don't pay any attention to rumors at all. I'm 100 percent focused on BVB; everything else is a distraction. Leaving last summer was absolutely not an issue for me," Kobel told Sport Bild.
With Kobel under contract until 2028, Dortmund are expected to open talks with him over a new deal before the end of the year – and the 28-year-old could imagine staying.
"I'm extremely happy at BVB, I really enjoy playing for this club and in front of these fans. Of course, I can very well imagine playing here for a long time to come."
Kobel's strong relationship with head coach Niko Kovac is one of the reasons he feels settled at BVB.

"He [Kovac, ed.] has brought a clear structure and culture here, which is the foundation for our success. In a team, there are many cultures and different languages. You have to find a common foundation, a shared path. And Niko has clearly made sure of that," he said.
