In 2016, the Chicago Cubs won the World Series. A lot has changed 10 years since. David Ross and Anthony Rizzo are now retired. Meanwhile, Kris Bryant is with the Colorado Rockies . However, Bryant, who was a hero for the 2016 Cubs and won the MVP that season, is dealing with injury concerns . Bryant recently made an appearance on the new podcast, the Lovable Reunion, which is hosted by Rizzo and Ross. During the episode, Bryant shared a revelation from the Cubs' 2016 World Series against the Cleveland Indians (now Cleveland Guardians).
Bryant's story came from when Chicago was trailing 3-1 in the series. The Cubs, of course, would erase the deficit and win the Fall Classic in one of the most memorable World Series of all-time.
"Probably Game 5, like the homer (Bryant hit a home run in Game 5 of the series). I told you guys last night what I was going through before that night," Bryant said. "So my Mom was sick. She was just, like, 'I need to go get something.' So we went to the E.R. at like five in the morning, and I was there until like seven in the morning with my Mom before Game 5… In my mind I'm like, you want to say you believe… We're down 3-1, it's gonna be really hard. You know what I mean? And I was like, I'm gonna be there for my Mom… It was around Halloween, I think it was a Saturday.
"Everybody's in the E.R., urgent care, with their costumes on. I could have fit right in if I just came in my uniform, too… But goes back to my personality of being, like, perfect. I need my nine hours of sleep… I probably got seven hours of sleep, six hours of sleep that night. And hit the biggest home run of my life probably."
Bryant's home run played a huge role in helping the Cubs start their comeback. Without Bryant's big swing, one has to wonder if Chicago would have snapped their 108-year long World Series drought.
