Lamine Yamal added another milestone to his rapidly growing Barcelona résumé during the club's September 19 trip to Sevilla . At 19 years and 68 days, he became the youngest player in Opta's records to reach 50 assists for a LaLiga club.
The achievement moved him past a benchmark previously held by Real Madrid winger Vinícius Júnior . Yamal reached the mark in his 159th official Barcelona appearance, continuing a remarkable start to his senior career.

A hostile trip to Seville
Barcelona traveled to Sevilla for a difficult away fixture on September 19. Sevilla supporters booed Yamal during the match, and he responded by gesturing for the crowd to make even more noise.
Yamal had an early effort saved by goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos in the eighth minute, with the ball also striking the post. Sevilla then took the lead through Youssouf Fofana in the 19th minute.
Raphinha equalized three minutes later, giving Barcelona a 1–1 scoreline at halftime. Barcelona eventually turned the match around after the break, with Raphinha completing his hat trick in a 3–1 victory.

Fifty assists mark a milestone
In the 52nd minute, Yamal delivered a cross that Raphinha headed home to put Barcelona ahead. The assist was Yamal's 50th for Barcelona's first team across all competitions.
Seventeen minutes later, Yamal slipped Raphinha through Sevilla's defense for the Brazilian's third goal, taking Yamal to 51 assists in 159 official Barcelona appearances.
At 19 years and 68 days, Yamal became the youngest player to reach 50 assists for a LaLiga club in Opta's records dating back to at least the 2013–14 season. Vinícius Júnior previously held that benchmark.

Vinicius held this record first
Vinícius Júnior previously held the benchmark, reaching 50 assists for Real Madrid in May 2023 at 22 years and 298 days old after 220 official appearances for the Spanish club.

Yamal reached 50 assists at 19 years and 68 days old in his 159th Barcelona appearance, making him 3 years and 230 days younger than Vinícius at the 50-assist milestone.
Vinícius reached 50 assists after 220 Real Madrid appearances, while Yamal reached the mark in his 159th official Barcelona first-team appearance. That is a difference of 61 matches.
An old rivalry resurfaces
The assist milestone adds another chapter to the competitive history between Yamal and Vinícius. During Real Madrid's 2–1 LaLiga win over Barcelona on October 26, 2025, cameras captured the two players exchanging words during the match.

Cadena SER reported that Vinícius twice told Yamal, "Solo pases atrás," meaning "only backward passes." Yamal responded during the exchange, and tensions between players from both teams continued after the final whistle.
Yamal has now surpassed the 50-assist age benchmark previously held by Vinícius. The achievement gives their widely discussed on-field rivalry another statistical talking point.
Raphinha also made history
Raphinha scored his second incredible hat trick in four days, a remarkable stretch of finishing form that kept him among Europe's most productive attackers this season, briefly overshadowing even Yamal's record in the immediate aftermath.

The Brazilian forward has thrived alongside his young teammate, and their partnership creates a genuine tactical puzzle for opposing defenses this season. Marking one player tightly tends to leave dangerous open space for the other.
Barcelona's coaching staff under Hansi Flick has leaned into this dynamic all season long. The pairing has become central to the club's attacking identity, and this win only reinforced how truly effective it can be.
How Yamal compares to Messi
Lionel Messi recorded 1 goal and 0 assists in 7 LaLiga appearances during the 2004–05 season, when he was 17 years old. His opportunities at senior level were still extremely limited at that stage.

Before turning 18, Yamal had accumulated 14 goals and 18 assists in LaLiga: 5 goals and 5 assists in 2023–24, followed by 9 goals and 13 assists in 2024–25.
Yamal has repeatedly pushed back against direct Messi comparisons. He has said he respects Messi's legacy but wants to follow his own path rather than try to become the next version of the Barcelona legend.
Little-known fact: Yamal's compound given name, Lamine Yamal, honors two people named Lamine and Yamal who helped his parents financially during a difficult period before his birth.

Yamal answers the Sevilla jeers
The Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán crowd made its feelings clear throughout the match, repeatedly booing Yamal whenever he became involved in the action. The 19-year-old did not appear intimidated by the hostile atmosphere.

During the first half, Yamal turned toward the stands and gestured for supporters to make even more noise. The moment became one of the most memorable images from Barcelona's difficult away victory.
Barcelona stays perfect this season
Barcelona's 3–1 victory over Sevilla gave the club 7 wins from its opening 7 LaLiga matches and kept Hansi Flick's side at the top of the table with 21 points.
Raphinha's finishing has been central to that start. His Sevilla hat trick took him to 12 league goals through 7 matches, while Yamal again contributed creatively with 2 assists.
Vinícius Júnior also remains among the prominent names in European football. He is one of the 30 nominees for the 2026 men's Ballon d'Or, whose winner is scheduled to be announced on October 26.
