The New York Yankees have started the 2026 season strong , as they lead the American League East. However, the ball club is battling some injury concerns. Carlos Rodon and Anthony Volpe are among the players currently recovering from injuries. Manager Aaron Boone shared the latest Rodon and Volpe updates, via Gary Phillips.
"2 ups today for Carlos Rodón's bullpen session. Next steps TBD, Aaron Boone said said. Anthony Volpe will likely travel home from Tampa with the # Yankees , Boone said. He could start a rehab assignment later that week," Phillips wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Rodon is seemingly taking steps forward but his next step is currently uncertain. Volpe could potentially return fairly soon if he is able to start a rehab assignment next week.
Volpe is recovering from a shoulder injury . Meanwhile, Rodon is battling back from elbow and hamstring injuries .
The fact that the Yankees are playing well despite not being at full strength is encouraging. Of course, Gerrit Cole also has yet to make his return amid his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The ball club will only benefit from Cole, Rodon and Volpe's returns.
The Yankees are currently 8-2 overall heading into their Wednesday matchup against the Athletics . New York has the best record in all of MLB at the moment. It is obviously too early to be too concerned about the standings, but the Yankees' strong start is impressive nonetheless.
First pitch for the Athletic-Yankees game is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST on Wednesday night. As for Volpe and Rodon, updates will continue to be made available on their injury statuses.
